Consuming health food and health drinks, exercising, and eliminating bad habits are all steps we know we should take, but we put them off like a list of chores we don’t want to deal with. If it were easy to change bad behaviors painlessly, people would do it all the time. Health food would be more popular than fast-food, and everyone would have a gym membership that they actually use. One of the biggest obstacles to making the smartest choices is the idea that we have to make only the wisest choices, all the time. It’s too overwhelming to contemplate, so we hold on to the bad habits, turning our noses up at health food and promising to start exercising, “soon.”

What if we take a more realistic approach to lifestyle changes? What if we only alter one thing at a time, making it a comfortable part of the daily routine before moving on to the next change? Making a little alteration in one’s daily activity doesn’t seem nearly as challenging as trying to vanquish every bad habit all at once.

Start With Health Drinks and Healthy Snacks

A simple way to lower sugar and carbohydrate intake is to alter your beverages. Instead of replacing meals with protein drinks, try just switching out a daily soda for anti-oxidant rich green tea. Don’t get hyped into buying “vitamin enhanced” waters, though, as they often include high levels of sweeteners and chemicals. Instead, look for natural health drinks that include nutrients like complex carbohydrates, chlorophyll, and live enzymes from whole food ingredients.

Snacking is a downfall for many when it comes to dealing with weight and health issues. While it may be a good idea to cut out snacking entirely, another option is to switch those snacks with “health food”. You still get the satisfaction of chewing on something flavorful, while putting less bad stuff and more beneficial nutrients into your body. As you progress, you can gradually switch all of your snacks and drinks with healthier options. Again, it’s not about changing everything at once but rather making a few small, realistic changes that have a cumulative effect.

Putting Health Food on Your Menu

Another small change that can make a big difference is to replace one side dish with a health food option. If you would normally serve up some white bread or white rice with your evening meal, for example, start by replacing it with some steamed vegetables. After a while, you may find that you’re ready to completely replace an entire meal a week with something far healthier. Try steaming instead of frying or microwaving, veggies instead of prepackaged side dishes, and alkaline foods instead of acid forming ones. Strengthen the experience further by serving your health food with anti-oxidant rich health drinks. You may find that you actually start looking forward to this healthy meal and will want to select healthier options more often.

Having a fear of medical doctors is quite common.

Maybe it isn’t a totally rational fear, but then that’s the case with most any fear or phobia.

So how can you get over your fear of visiting a physician? After all, even the healthiest person needs to go to them every now and then…

1. Work out when your fear first started. Maybe it was a childhood visit, maybe it was simply because a loved one had a issue that a physician failed to cure. Whatever the cause, see if you can work out when your fear started. That way you can begin working on it. Most times, our fears are actually pretty cowardly. And as soon as you begin to close in on your fear, there’s a good chance it will run away and leave you alone.

2. Discover a phobia-friendly physician. Like dentists (who a lot of individuals are also afraid of), some medical doctors handle patients who are afraid of them better than others. Ask around until you find a physician who knows this is really a real fear and who will work with you to overcome it or at least decrease it. Maybe they’ll let you visit with a friend, maybe they’ve got extra staff on hand. It may even be as simple as your physician not wearing the usual white coat!

3. Discover a local assistance group. This may be a group that addresses numerous fears, rather than focusing solely on individuals who are afraid of medical doctors, but you ought to be able to find a assistance group to aid.

4. If your fear is much more to do with needles or other things that your physician may use whilst examining you, recognize that fear instead. The much more you narrow down a fear, the smaller it can turn out to be.

5. Ask your physician to keep you informed. Simply because they do their job day in, day out, some medical doctors can miss explaining the things they’re doing whilst they’re working with you. Make sure they explain every thing that’s happening and why it’s being done. Again, this should assist to reassure you that they’re there to aid you, rather than your fear’s worry that they actually mean you harm.

6. Talk things through with an understanding friend or work colleague. Oftentimes our fears decrease or even disappear totally when we vocalize them. Talking things through with an understanding friend may be all that you have to allow you to to overcome your fear.

7. Get professional assist. If every thing else hasn’t worked, find a professional who specializes in getting rid of people’s fears and phobias. Look in your local Yellow Pages for a hypnosis or NLP expert, ideally 1 who mentions that they can assist get rid of fears and phobias in their advert. Do not worry if they don’t specifically mention the fear of medical doctors in their advert, the techniques they use work well for all fears that we suffer from.

Frozen fruit smoothies are always a favorite in my kitchen. Healthy and easy to make, what more can you ask for? You can make these healthy drinks that will cool you down with all sorts of fruit and you can also mix different fruit. Here’s how to make your very own frozen fruit smoothie. I promise this will be fast and easy.

Here’s What You Need:

We will start with the appliance. You will need a blender to make good smoothies. Almost any type of blender with a tight fitting lid will do. A small, personal blender like the magic bullet is nice to have becasue you can customize each smoothie. A regular-sized blender is perfect for making big batches of smoothies.

Our first ingredient will be of course frozen fruit. You can make frozen smoothies with just about any type of fruit and of course also combinations of fruit. Great fruit to start with is strawberry, peach and banana.

Yogurt makes another great addition to just about any smoothie. They give it a nice tangy flavor and creamy texture. You can use any type of yogurt. I usually stick to low-fat versions to keep the calories in check. You can also use Greek yogurt which is thicker and has more protein per serving.

The last ingredient you need in your smoothie is a liquid to thin the drink out and make it blendable. You can use water, milk or your favorite juice. Your smoothie’s consistency will be determined by how much liquid you add. A good ratio to use is 2-1-1 (frozen fruit - yogurt - liquid). For a yummy strawberry smoothie blend 2 cups frozen berries with a cup each of milk and low-fat vanilla yogurt.

Add more or less liquid until your smoothie gets the consistency you like best. You can also throw in a few ice cubes and blend them into your smoothie

Time to Blend:

Let’s talk about blending. Start by blending the fruit and yogurt a litlte, then add your liquid and blend away. If your blender has a pulsing function (most do) use it. It allows any larger piece of fruit to sink back down to the bottom and get chopped up. This will make sure everything gets pureed and blended nicely resulting in a yummy smoothie.

If your blender starts working too hard, it’s time to add a little more liquid to make sure everything moves around well.

For smoothie recipes that call for ice in it, start with the ice and chop it up in your blender before you add the remaining ingredients. It will help mix the other ingredients together.

By the way, you don’t have to stick to just frozen fruit in your smoothie. Feel free to mix both fresh and frozen fruits. For these frozen smoothies you can either buy fruit already frozen at the grocery store, or take your favorite fresh fruit and toss it in the freezer. Berries can be frozen whole.

Slices of frozen banana make a great addition to just about any fruit smoothie. Whenever you find yourself with a banana that’s getting a little too ripe, peel it, and then slice it. The banana slices go into a freezer bag and are popped into the freezer until I am ready to use them in a smoothie. Adding them gives your smoothie a nice creamy texture and adds some sweetness as well.

Blend up the perfect cool summer treat with this strawberry smoothie recipe. Try it and you can find more smoothie recipes at http://healthy.hillbillyhousewife.com/category/recipes/smoothies

As a side note, you may be interested to know that the Inca called Quinoa the “Mother Grain”. It was thought to be sacred and was a staple of Andean diet for over six thousand years.

One of the causes why it has always been so popular is the fact that it is filled with protein. What this means is that it has all the amino acids we need; including one named lysine. Weight Loss Supplements - Do They Really Perform?
icon1 pcgumban | icon2 Food and Drink | icon4 07 22nd, 2010| icon3Comments Off

Folks spend a remarkable amount of cash on weight loss supplements, but are they profitable? There are loads of differing kinds of weight loss supplements, but they can sometimes be broken down into three classes : metabolism boosters, hunger suppressants, and additions to stop you from storing calories as fat.

Many weight loss supplements are basically pointless and they won’t augment your results without regard for how well you eat or how much you exercise. I say that of the three groups mentioned above, the additions built to stop your body from storing calories as fat are by in giant the worst group of weight loss supplements. They’re continually promoted as having the facility to let you eat what you need and the supplement will suck up the calories rather than your body. This sounds probably convenient in principle, but these additions never measure up to their hype. Perhaps the most serious issue with these additions, apart from them not doing what they guarantee, is they convey the message you can lose fat without eating right or exercising.

Any effective weight reduction plan must include eating sensibly and exercise and any product that suggests it can offer excellent results without you eating right or exercising is something you should definitely avoid. The other issue with fat obstructing additions is even though they do work correctly and absorb some of the calories you eat, they also absorb vitamins and minerals, which isn’t excellent for your well-being and your capacity to lose fat. In addition, the calories that are not laid down as fat, still have to be processed and ultimately passed thru your system. Not only can this be demanding on your body, it may be uncomfortable and the better the product works, the worse these effects become.

Here’s A Gluten Free Oatmeal Cookies Recipe Today
icon1 pcgumban | icon2 Food and Drink | icon4 07 20th, 2010| icon3Comments Off

Men, women and children from all of the country are making the switch to gluten-free eating. Some of them are diagnosed with celiac disease; some have issues with ADD etc. At first it looks like you can no longer enjoy some of your favorite comfort foods like paste, pizza and cookies. Thankfully there are many gluten-free options available now along with lots of gluten free recipes. Here’s one of my favorites, for a delicious gluten free oatmeal cookie.

Gluten Free Oatmeal Cookie Recipe

* 1/2 cup margarine
* 1/2 cup light-brown sugar
* 1/4 cup white sugar
* 1/2 tsp vanilla
* 3/4 cups gluten-free flour
* 1/2 tsp baking soda
* dash of table salt
* 1/2 tsp cinnamon
* 1 large egg
* 1/2 tsp xanthan gum
* 1 1/2 cups gluten free oats
* 1/2 cup raisins (you can leave these out)

Preheat the oven to 350 Fahrenheit. Soften the margarine either by sitting it out for 30 minutes or by sticking it in the microwave for a few seconds. Using a handmixer, combine the butter and both the regular and brown sugar in a large bowl. The egg and vanilla should be incorporated next. Take your time and keep blending until you have a smooth, creamy mixture.

Sift together the flour, soda, salt, cinnamon and gum in another bowl. Give those dry ingredients a good stir, then work it into the egg mixture. Finish the batter by adding the oats and raisins and mixing everything together.

Scoop one tablespoon of batter onto a greased baking sheet per cookie. Keep working until you have your cookie sheet filled up. I like to work with two large spoons to do this, but a melon scooper or small ice cream scooper work as well.

The cookies will need to bake for about 12 minutes. A golden brown color will let you know that it’s time to take the oatmeal cookies out of the oven. Cool them a bit, then move them to a wire rack to finish cooling. Store the finished cookies in a zip-lock bag.

This recipe makes about 2 dozen cookies.

Of course you don’t have to bake all your cookies and other gluten-free treats from scratch. You can get all kinds of baking mixes and even finished gluten free products at local grocery stores and online at websites that specialize in gluten-free products. They are a great alternative. There are even some premade cookies that you can purchase that taste pretty decent.

In other words, there is no reason to give up delicious baked goods when you are living gluten free.

And now, I would like to invite you to check out another tasty and good-for-you recipe. This one is for quinoa muffins which you can make gluten-free by making them with gluten-free flour. And here are more quinoa recipes for you.

If you are wondering as to how to go about eating healthy food then you should relax. Eating quality food doesn’t must be a pain and it can be relatively very simple too.

Everyone wants to live for longer and be around for their families and chums, well if you are not healthy then there is not a glorious chance you’ll make it to see your pals and family grow old with you. So many people will pass on a salad and go straight towards an oily burger without realizing they are seriously hurting their fitness? Eating a salad before the primary course will have 2 great effects for you. One it’ll put those vitamins and minerals in you and your body will regard it highly. And second it will fill you up some of the way stopping you from gorging yourself on the oily foods. It’s truly great to have what my personal coach called a BAS ( big Axx Salad ) with each meal, particularly dinner. Dinner should be the lightest of all of the day;s meals, but we truly pile it on at dinner time. The explanation behind how to go about eating healthy food is that we do not plan out our day in the correct way. And if you are one that doesn’t eat much in the day, then you are just simply depriving your body of needed food.

Meal planning. That is’s fundamentally what you need to do. If you’re not scheduling what to eat, you will alter from eating healthy and get right into break mode. It’s vital to maintain a good diet every day, twenty 4 7, as each calorie counts. The target is to plan out your meals so breakfast and lunch give you 50 five p.c of your daily nourishment, and with luck, with reasonable food.
