The dad of the incredible Weight Loss Twins, George Germanakos, used to claim, “The only way to get something done is to get it started.” Try to imagine how pleased and very proud he’d have been if he’d lived long enough to see his twin boys, Bill and Jim, exercise and diet their way to victory on series 4 of the extremely popular NBC weight-loss show The Biggest Loser to become well known as The Weight Loss Twins. However, it was not always just like that, though Jim Germanakos has always been a big fan of the show. Jim’s a Manhattan cop and a big family man. Up to 2 years ago, when his work allowed, he’d sit on the sofa in front of the TV chewing away on high-cal comfort snacks, soaked up by the exploits of the shrinking competitors, but not especially worried about his own 295lb ever growing waistline. That was before his “ahaa” moment, before he became one of the Weight Loss Twins.

The Weight Loss Twins bounced into the competition at 361lbs and 334lbs. Jim and Bill had been large guys since they were young. The Weight Loss Twin’s father, George, had been a large man too and had died of obesity related diseases when they were children. Regardless of this, Jim was an active man, a dedicated fire-fighter and cop who liked to join in and play with his youngsters. He didn’t consider his own weight was a big problem. His wife, Val, was a big lady too. Just like plenty of folks, they enjoyed their food. As Jim puts it, once you get to 295lbs you just come to terms with your fatness and continue on eating..

Until your weight begins to stand in the way of your family’s happiness! It was when his sixteen year old son, a keen eagle scout, eventually got himself and his pa to take part on a once in a lifetime adventure trip, that Jim suddenly saw his weight was potentially a big obstacle. During a rigorous training session, when the coach found out that Jim weighed over 300lbs, he had to ban son and father from the trip. It transpired that the helicopters weren’t capable of evacuating people over 250lbs. His son was so sad he cried all the way home. He loved Jim but he knew that his dad had let him down. For Jim this was his slap in the face, his “Ahaa moment” and he decided to do something about it - as one of the Weight Loss Twins.

Then together, the Germanakos brothers, the Weight Loss Twins, went on The Biggest Loser. During the first 5 weeks Jim managed to lose 54 lbs. Then he was eliminated from the series. Over the following 6 months back home, through dedication and grit, he lost another 133lbs. He couldn’t have done it without the love and support from his wife, Val, who also lost 50lbs. The Weight Loss Twins went on to win the competition. Bill was the show series victor and Jim was awarded the “Winner of losers” prize.

Since then the Weight Loss Twins have been interviewed on TV shows like Larry King Live and Entertainment Tonight and have gained world-wide affection and approval. They have justifiably become celebs in their own field. Particularly they will soon be gaining fame in the video-gaming arena when they appear as characters in the hugely popular Nintendo Wii series. Most significantly in the period since they were winners in the show both the Weight Loss Twins have shown they are able to keep almost all of the wonderful weight loss they achieved when they appeared on The Biggest Loser.
